AI translation credit usage

Last updated: January 5, 2026

Strapi AI credit usage is calculated based on the total amount of text processed, including the original content and the translated output. However, there is no fixed conversion such as “X words equals Y credits.” Instead, usage is calculated dynamically for each translation run.

The following examples illustrate how AI credit usage can vary based on content length and the number of target languages. These examples are provided for reference only. Actual usage may vary depending on the structure and complexity of your content.

Example: short text translated into multiple languages

Source text (English):

"The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."

Translating this sentence from English to Spanish increased AI credit usage by 0.09 credits.

Translating the same sentence into Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Ukrainian increased total AI credit usage to 0.25 credits, meaning 0.16 additional credits were used for all five languages.

This shows that AI credit usage increases as more languages are added, but it does not scale linearly. The source text is processed once, and additional usage comes primarily from generating the translated output for each language.

Example: longer content translated into multiple languages

Source text (English):

"Strapi is a headless content management system that gives developers full control over their content APIs. It is designed to work with any frontend framework and supports a wide range of use cases, from marketing websites to complex enterprise applications. Teams can model content, manage workflows, and deliver structured data across multiple channels and locales from a single platform."

Starting from 0.25 credits used in the previous example, translating this paragraph into Spanish, French, German, Japanese, and Ukrainian increases total AI credit usage to 0.60 credits, meaning 0.35 additional credits were used.

Although the paragraph example contains much more text than the single-sentence example, AI credit usage does not increase at a fixed per-word rate. Usage is based on overall text processing, which means longer content requires more credits, but growth is not linear. If credits run out, AI translations will continue to work, and overages will be billed automatically.
