Offline license for Strapi
Last updated: March 12, 2026
Overview
A Strapi offline license is a special license type designed for organizations whose infrastructure cannot freely reach the public internet. This typically applies to environments behind strict corporate proxies, air-gapped networks, or environments governed by security policies that block or heavily restrict outbound connections.
Why an offline license exists
Standard Strapi licenses perform periodic validation against Strapi's licensing servers. For most customers, this happens silently in the background and requires no attention.
However, some organizations operate infrastructure that cannot make those outbound connections, or where doing so would require navigating complex network rules that are outside of their control. In these cases, standard license validation will fail, which can interrupt normal operation.
An offline license solves this by allowing Strapi to validate your license without requiring a direct connection to Strapi's licensing infrastructure.
Who needs an offline license
You may need an offline license if your environment has any of the following characteristics:
Air-gapped servers: production or staging environments that have no outbound internet access by design
Corporate proxy restrictions: your organization routes all outbound traffic through a proxy that blocks or filters connections to external services
Regulated or classified environments: industries such as defence, finance, or healthcare where network egress is tightly controlled for compliance reasons
Self-hosted infrastructure with firewall rules: outbound connections are whitelisted, and adding Strapi's licensing endpoints is not feasible
IP-based allowlists: your network allows outbound connections by IP address only and cannot allowlist by domain name
If your Strapi instance can reach the internet normally, a standard license is sufficient; an offline license is not required.
How to get an offline license
Offline licenses are available exclusively on Self-Hosted Enterprise plans for an additional fee. Once purchased, contact the Strapi support team and they will work with you to configure the right solution for your environment.
