Cloudflare DNS 1000 Error when Configuring Custom Domains
Last updated: August 13, 2025
Context
If you are trying to configure Strapi Cloud Custom Domains and you encounter the Cloudflare "Error 1000: DNS points to prohibited IP" please see the following information on how to resolve it.
Answer
Generally the issue when you encounter this error is related to your Cloudflare account, typically when we see this error it likely means you have a Cloudflare Enterprise account.
Within your account please check if you have the Zone Hold enabled, if it is you will need to disable this for your Domain to work Strapi Cloud. This feature is only available within Cloudflare Enterprise accounts.
We utilize your CNAME record to validate domain ownership and then our upstream provider creates the actual record within their Cloudflare Zone meaning that your CNAME is actually going to be copied into our zone which is exactly what Zone Holds are designed to prevent.
If you do not have a Cloudflare Enterprise account and still encounter this issue please open up a ticket with us.
